Joining O'Grady's Pub and Grill, Family Christian Store, Rejuvenation
Spa Salon, LaBaguette
Bakery and others on Mineral Point Road across from West Towne Mall and Shopko is Lu Anders
Boutique.
Having opened in June in the former Allen-Edmonds Shoe space,
owner Leeanne Hallquist offers Madison women a new alternative
for unique clothing, accessories and jewelry.
Shayna Miller of Madison
Magazine writes the following about Lu Anders in her blog
called "Window Shopping" which can be found at
madisonmagazine.com
"Owner Leeanne Hallquist’s women’s lifestyle
boutique focuses on comfy clothing like tees, tank tops and lounge pants up to
dressier items like jersey-knit dresses and fashionable little jackets. She’s
the only purveyor of
Trollbeads
in the area—individual beads made of sterling silver and Murano glass that
wearers can string into bracelets. Each bead has a different meaning and
Hallquist says she’s already had people stopping in requesting them.
Another accessory item Hallquist is excited about are SwitchFlops,
flip-flops that come in three different shoe styles that wearers can change out
the strap patterns. You can find everything from nautical stripes to polka dots
to chain-link patterns on the change-outs.
“The store is really for
anyone that needs something casual with a fun edge to it,” says Hallquist. “Our
goal is to have something new every week.”
Oh, and in case you’re curious
about the name Lu Anders, it’s named after daughter Lulu and son Alexander.

Holly Beach, founding owner of the Silly Yak Bakery,
has been baking gluten-free breads and treats since June 2002. Says Ms. Beach,
"The reason I started baking gluten-free was due in part to stubbornness and in
part to a passion for baking breads for EVERYONE to enjoy. When I found out how
difficult it was to get gluten-free ingredients in bulk, I thought to myself how
hard it must be for a person with celiac disease to deal with obtaining safe and
tasty foods on a day-to-day basis. From that point on, I was determined to make
it work!"
This summer, Holly's dream of creating a full-time,
certified gluten-free baking facility was made a reality as the space was
remodeled, thereby achieving the coveted "Gluten-Free Certification" from a
California firm. "The Silly Yak Bakery now bakes gluten-free products daily,
exclaims Ms. Beach! Stop in for a tour of the new facility. We built it just for
you!"

Brand New at Prairie Towne
Center
The second newest addition to Prairie
Towne Center since the shopping center's inception in 1997 is Frugal Muse
Books Music Video. The new store moved from its former location in High
Point Center on D'Onofrio Drive to a higher profile position in a portion of the former
CompUSA space.
Founded in 1994, Frugal Muse is a small, independently owned chain of three bookstores serving Madison, Wisconsin and suburban Chicago. Although their mission is to provide an outlet where people can buy reasonably priced books, CDs, movies and games and trade the same for fair value, they also feature many discounted brand new books. Friendly and knowledgeable staff are constantly available to help customers find what they're looking for. Frugal Muse can also order most new books at 25% off.
Says Andy Gaylor, one of four individual owners of Frugal Muse, "Over the years we have thrived because of the friendship and patronage of our customers. We thank them for their support and value their input. After all, a bookstore is only a reflection of its customers."
